[edit]This plane bears a strong superficial resemblance to the BAE Hawk - is it a license-built copy? (Mmartins 02:03, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC))
- A copy, yes. Licence-built, no. Impi 17:24, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I should probably clarify. While the Hawk was evidently a baseline from which the Hongdu designers began, it's wrong to say that the JL-8 is a direct copy of the Hawk. More like it's what the Hawk would have been had it decided to remain cheap and simple instead of becoming the advanced Lead-In Fighter Trainer it is today. — Impi 10:27, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
- Why JL-8 is a copy of Hawk? Could you give any evidence? JL-8 is more like a revive of Shenyang JJ-1 which was cancelled in 1958, since Hongdu had a close tie to Shenyang in 1950s-1960s. German wiki has a picture of JJ-1 [1]. Sinolonghai 22:30, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- The tail section of the JL-8 seems to be the same, or following a similar design to the JJ-1, but the canopy and nose bare an uncanny resemblance to the Hawk. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.132.113.67 (talk) 13:18, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

First time I saw this aircraft and the first words out I of my mouth are - “this is a copy of a the Hawk”. The rear end (tail specifically) is different, but if you block that off with your hand and look from the point where the tail fin merges with the fuselage forward - its basically a Hawk. Of course it is what’s inside that also matter......but it is very clear that this is a copy from a physical design perspective. I guess if you cannot beat ‘em, join ‘em.
L-11
[edit]Shouldn't this article mention the L-11 variant of the JL-8? The L-11 is the latest Chinese production variant of JL-8 that serves alongside the JL-8. The difference is the use of the WS-11 (a copy of the Motorsich AI-25TLK) which is more powerful than the TFE731-2A. Semi-Lobster (talk) 02:59, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Tone and sources
[edit]This article needs to be drastically rewritten, it reads like a company brochure and does not follow any sort of Wikipedia format for aircraft. Perhaps in the future I will rewrite it. Semi-Lobster (talk) 02:02, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Colors of distribution map
[edit]Why are the colors of Chinese/Russian aircraft marked in red in the map? I see US-made aircraft articles marked in blue. Politics gets involved even when drawing a map? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.82.206.14 (talk) 07:19, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
- If you look at all the maps at Category:Military Aircraft Operators Maps you will see red is used for some US aircraft. Not sure why the colours are political red is just normally associated with soviet forces, no reason why you couldnt change the colour if you wanted to. Stop changing the Main Article Picture
[edit]Pakistan and China are the manufacturers and designers of this plane and i suggest they deserve to have the article picture of their JL-8/K-8 Xtreme o7 (talk) 17:01, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
- Irrelevant. We generally put the best photo of an aircraft in the lead/infobox that shows the aircraft in flight and at a good angle, and with a clear, bright background if possible. Who made it doesn't matter, unless we're trying to choose from several equally good photos. BilCat (talk) 17:11, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
- Alright i understand. I'm just kinda infuriated cus I've noticed possible hate fueled vandalism on Pakistan related articles and pictures. Take the Mi-17 picture i put on the Pakistan section of the operators of mi-17 article but when i checked it again after a day or two someone had removed it for some reason. Xtreme o7 (talk) 18:45, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- Xtreme o7 I highly recommend that you read WP:RS (especially this section) before making another edit to this article. The sources you are using are self-published and therefore not considered reliable. - ZLEA T\C 21:11, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
