Poltical position within the Liberal Party
[edit]Senator Vanstone is a "moderate" within the Liberal party; some would even call her a "wet". The article should mention this.
Maybe we should also make the point that John Howard has more than once appointed a moderate to a Cabinet position where he or she has to be the public face of an unpopular or controversial policy (eg., putting Ruddock in charge of Migration). Chris Chittleborough 12:42, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
This kind of stuff is inevitably a matter of opinion and therefore cannot be stated as fact. The best way to approach it is to quote someone else as saying it. You could write: "Michelle Grattan wrote in The Age "Senator Vanstone is a "moderate" within the Liberal party; some would even call her a "wet"." This avoids debate about whether the statement is true or not, since Grattan is saying it, not you. Adam 15:23, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
Quite true. I guess I just volunteered to do some Googling. Chris Chittleborough 07:31, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
- Having just found this in an old to-do list, I'm now un-volunteering; I'll save my energy for other articles I care more about. Anyone else care to have a go? Chris Chittleborough 10:11, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- Her dropping from the Ministry makes her faction even less important, so no :) That said, I don't think Vanstone or Ruddock would fit the definition of 'moderate' these days. Perhaps ten years ago, but neither has shown any stomach for moderate policies in more recent times. Ruddock especially is now a classic right-winger. Jeendan 11:30, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Implication in forced abortion
[edit]It's interesting that she signed the order for Zhu Quing Ping to be returned to China, even though she knew that the pregnant woman's baby would be aborted. Sure enough, at eight month's into the pregnancy, the Chinese authorities forced the woman to abort her baby. http://melindatankardreist.com/2010/08/%E2%80%98they-kill-her-baby-and-they-make-her-suffer%E2%80%99-horror-stories-from-china/ - 114.76.227.0 (talk) 12:43, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
