Official version
[edit]The official version may have changed yet again (in 2002) to be closer to the original poem according to this site: [1]. I have not been able to verify this yet. Dori | Talk 23:52, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)
- I just gave a look at the page about the anthem, on the official site of the Albanian president [2] (the link is to the Albanian version. There should be an English version of this particular page too, but looks like it's not working at the moment). Apparently the lyrics written on the page are more similar to the original poem as you state above (for ex. "Të gjithë Atij duke u betuar"), but the wma file of the anthem, that you can download from the same site, still uses the most known lyrics (the one's posted on this site), (ex. "Të gjithë atje duke u betuar"). Sounds a bit confusing... since the changes apparently should have been made four years ago. jonosphere 00:30, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
In regards to the lyrics of the original poem, I found an interesting article from Vasil Tole [3] (unfortunately this article doesn't appear in the English version of the site), who is a composer and has written a booklet on the history of the Albanian national anthem and the controversies associated with it. jonosphere 00:31, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
I don't know if this will be seen by anyone relevant. But 217.224.207.5 keeps posting the Albanian language version over in the Maltese wikipedia. Does anyone have any idea why that might be happening? Srl 08:44, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC) Talk
Translation
[edit]It is translated too literally in the English version. The word order is incorrect. It must be changed.
- It was worse before. I'll try to render it more properly. Vlug 23:17, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Neither the anthems of other countries featured in wiki don't have a proper poetic translation. I think the translation should be as much faithful as possible to the original. Or someone more able should put a third column with a poetic version, if needed. Dimror 09:59, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Literal translation:
Around the flag, united, With one desire and with one purpose, All there taking the oath, To tie the besa for salvation.
From the war only he leaves Who is born a traitor. Who is a man does not get intimidated But dies, but dies as a martyr.
In our hands we shall keep the weapons [In order] to protect the fatherland in every corner. Our rights we do not share [compromise]; Here the enemies have no place.
For God himself said it with his own mouth That nations extinguish [perish] upon [the face of] the earth, But Albania shall live [Because] for it, for it we will fight. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.183.240.185 (talk) 19:42, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
moves to establish a new anthem?
[edit]I am curious if some Albanians feel that the current anthem is a product of the more violent times of when it was written and would prefer a new anthem? This is another translation I found into English: Albanian Pledge to the Flag:
United around the flag With one desire and one goal Let us pledge our word of honor To fight for our salvation Only he who is a born traitor Averts from the struggle He who is brave is not daunted But falls - a martyr to the cause With arms in hand we shall remain To guard our fatherland round about Our rights we will not bequeath Enemies have no place here For the Lord Himself has said That nations vanish from the earth But Albania shall live on Because for her, it is for her that we fight
Here in America, many people prefer the song "America" over the National Anthem, due to its violent nature (a reflection of the Revolutionary War.) I can't read Albanian so not sure what some websites say about this, and if there could be found any Reliable Source material for a revision of the anthem to use in the article. HammerFilmFan (talk) 16:29, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- I have never heard that anyone in Albania wants to revise the anthem. The current one is not more violent than many other national anthems (e.g. Algeria, Denmark [Royal Anthem], France, Mexico). You should see this in a historical context.

Fourth stanza (not usually sung)
[edit]The heading above the fourth stanza is incorrect. On official occasions, either the first two stanzas or (rarely) the first four stanzas are sung, never the first three stanzas without the fourth. However, musical renditions of the complete poem do exist.

What does this mean?
[edit]The words were written by the Albanian poet Asdreni but are merely different from the original Romanian lyrics which Andrei Barseanu wrote for Porumbescu's piece. [Emphasis mine]
What is this supposed to mean? This seems like a non-native speaker using the wrong English phrase, because this doesn't mean anything in English. john k (talk) 14:39, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
This means that the lyrics written by the Albanian poet are a translation of the Romanian lyrics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.14.211.143 (talk) 05:50, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Questions about the IPA transcription
[edit]- The transcription as it currently stands appears to be systematically transforming any comma (,) in the punctuation of the source script into [ |] and any period (.) into [ ||]. Since [|] and [||] do not mean anything in IPA (as far as I am aware), can I take it that these transformations are accidental/unintentional and can therefore safely be removed?
- The first word of the anthem, Rreth, is transcribed as [rɛθ̟]. Again, this looks like an accident as I know of no IPA character [θ̟] (sic) or of the existence of more than one kind of [θ] (th) in Albanian.
- Something similar appears to have occurred with dh: see lidhim transcribed as [li.ð̟im]. Any comments? -- Picapica (talk) 18:58, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Alphabets
[edit]Were the additional transliterations current sometime between the publication of the poem and nowadays or were they in disuse before the publication (whence they are original research). --Error (talk) 15:34, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- I just removed the Greek and Cyrillic alphabet renditions. They're irrelevant, completely original, and very likely to cause offense. It's actually much more reasonable to provide the U.S. anthem in Tengwar or Shavian scripts. Getoar TX (talk) 20:00, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
Arvanitic
[edit]The version in the Greek alphabet seems a mere transliteration (its IETF language tag would be sq-Grek). If it is in the Arvanitic dialect, its tag should be aat-Grek. --Error (talk) 15:34, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
