First of all, I'd like to state that I am not a rascist, bigot, or anything of that sort. However, I did make an observation about the upcoming artists of today. Let's make a list shall we?
People like: Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Eminem, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson..etc.
Now I think we can agree that these artists have hit it big. In fact, I'm sure they have sold more records already than some usual hip hop/ R& B artists such as Boyz II Men, Brandy, etc. So, if you look at the artists of today, you'll notice that most of them are caucasian. It seems that the mainstream audience is just now getting into hip hop and R&B music. Why? Because they now have white artists performing the music. I do not doubt that some of these artists have talent. (and I use the term some as an overstatement)....yet, it kind of intrigues me that other such similar groups involving African Americans do not receive the same recognition. And in the same way, I also see some black artists dipping their talents into pop music and techno. But they are not as successful. Whether you'd like to agree or not, I believe that the mainstream audience (majority of caucasian) has just now taken to these R&B groups because of their familiarity. I mean, I doubt that N'Sync would be so popular if they were Asian, Hispanic, or African American. I'm not claiming a racial conspiracy...just a fact about society in America.
Trust me, I don't take this issue seriously, or take it as a travesty. Just a strange observation...that leaves me kind of confused and disturbed.
But that's just me, Stupid Ho
