Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ausir

Self-nomination. While I know that some people don't like self-nominations, I mainly work at Polish Wikipedia, where only self-nominations are allowed. I've been at en: since February 2004 and I have over 5000 edits here .While I'm not as active here as I used to be until I started to be more active at Polish Wikipedia and other projects, I still work on some articles here, mainly connected with science fiction, fantasy and Poland. I also introduced the first Wikiportals to en.wikipedia. I'm a sysop at Polish Wikipedia, Polish Wikinews and Wikimedia Commons (the latter means that I also dibble in license tags here as well). I understand that my candidature might be rejected because of the self-nomination and lesser activity here than at pl, but It never hurts to try. Ausir 19:35, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

- Support - but please start writing edit summaries as often as possible. Kingturtle 00:44, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

- Support. I think it would be a shame to lose him for some minor mistakes which he will very quickly learn to avoid. I believe we need as many multi-lingual and multi-cultural wikipedians on english wikipedia as we can get. The fact he is already an admin bodes well.--Silversmith 17:55, 8 May 2005 (UTC)
- Sure. -Bjarki 18:11, 8 May 2005 (UTC)
- Lukewarm support. User really needs to learn how the English Wikipedia works, and start writing edit summaries. Chameleon 18:26, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

- Support, some people do like self-noms! I always add a few personal extra "points" for a self-nom. Ausir seems like an excellent user, and his placing this page wrong is nothing, AFAIC, especially with the way he explains it. The stats for his contributions to different namespaces look perfect to me, and I agree with Silversmith about the importance of multi-lingual and multi-cultural admins. He says he'll try to provide more edit summaries, and I suppose try is all we ever do.--Bishonen | talk 02:14, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
- Looks like a good editor from what I see, and the fact that he's already an admin at pl: is a plus. Happy to support now, based on answer about using edit summaries for changes to articles. Jonathunder 02:39, 2005 May 9 (UTC)
- Weak Support. The only big problem is the lack of edit summaries, otherwise I agree with Silversmith. The benefit of multi-lingual and multi-cultural admins is that they can help coordinate and manage the translations of various articles across the different wikis. - Support. The arguments about edit summaries, time on Wikipedia and failing to conduct a VfD the correct way are tepid at best. - Mark 15:05, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- Support. He's a diligent editor, multilingual, is familiar with cross-wiki issues and a pl sysop. This is just what we need. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 16:21, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

- Given the user's apparent inexperience (drawing from both the time, which is marginal, and his putting this page at the top of Bishonen's in the nominated-by-others section), I cannot support this user. I don't see a great need for admin status, and I think he is a fine user. Just not admin-able yet. Smoddy (Rabbit and pork) 20:14, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
- Well, as I said, I work mostly at pl: and we don't use this kind of subpages as templates on voting pages there, so I was a bit confused. It was indeed not a very good beginning for my nomination, so I expect it to be rejected. Oh well... Ausir 20:26, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
- Great, great user. He has been here since February 2004, not 2005. So this is not "marginal". However, I cannot support because I noticed that many edits have no summaries; also, he forgot to change the UserName to his own name in this RfA page. --Lst27 (talk) 21:34, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
I see that Ausir does a lot of good work, but I'm bothered by the fact that he does not consistently provide edit summaries for article edits even though he has been asked to start doing that. Sietse 08:50, 8 May 2005 (UTC)Vote moved to support.Looks like a good editor from what I see, and the fact that he's already an admin at pl: is a plus. Will support if he commits to using edit summaries for changes to articles. Jonathunder 18:17, 2005 May 8 (UTC)Moved to Support.I would love to support this candidate, I just need to hear him comment on the edit summary issue first. I hope the several complaints about it on this page have shown him that it's important (failing to provide edit summaries creates a lot of frustration for others).--Bishonen | talk 18:45, 8 May 2005 (UTC)Moved to Support.

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:
- 1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
- A. To be honest, I probably won't be a highly active admin, but the sysop status will help me with fighting vandalism in articles on my watchlist. I also watch the RC sometimes, and contribute to some VfD disputes.
- 2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- A. I'm mostly proud of my contributions to Polish Wikipedia, but I'm particularly pleased of itroducing the concept of Wikiportals to English Wikipedia, and my translations from Polish.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
- A. I haven't been in any serious conflicts at en:, except for not supporting nationalists who want to remove German names from articles on Polish cities.
