[edit]I have often seen her name spelled as "Elaine"? A google search for Elaine Karp de Toledo finds more hits than Eliane ... ? Anyone know the story on this? Schtickwriter 20:04, 16 August 2007 (UTC) Regarding this statement
- Some people say that she was paid US$ 1 million to return to Peru and help her husband in his presidential campaign.
This is rather provocative, to say the least. We should cite a source for it or delete it. -- Viajero 15:51, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC) In 2006 when finalizing the government of Toledo, Karp fled from Peru defendant of corruption This really, really needs a citation. --Descendall 07:25, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- I deleted it --Descendall 03:18, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
'The phrase "is fluent in 7 languages" is not correct. I've heard her speak in Nederlands and it sucks, she knows the language but it is not FLUENT, by the way the name Flemish of the language is incorrect, because it refers just to a local accent. I also speak spanish, my mother language, so I can say that her spanish is TERRIBLE, no way you can call that "fluent". --Karolus
Btw, I'm not disputing the fact they been separated for a number of years. It is pretty much 'public knowledge' Just that we should try to reference affirmations as much as we can. PuercoPop (talk) 22:05, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Feigned credentials
[edit]For some years this party stated she'd earned a doctorate at Stanford which was untrue, discovered by accident communicating with the alumni association; she said she was in the doctoral program there, also untrue, confirmed via department. In fact, notably, this person goes by 'Dr.' in Peru and Latin America. The claim to speak Quechua is also false; a few words do not a speaker make. A speech given in Ancash Province (Ancash Quechua) was memorized. Moreover, there are so many Quechuas that studying one would in no way assure intelligibility in others.
As for charges of inappropriate activity while at the U.N. this is documented, and a deeper search may discover it, or parties may have had the internet 'cleaned' of documents they do not wish to be visible. There is a standing suspicion of money intended for Amazonian groups that went missing also. This person and spouse have public image problems already, one need not publish more negative comments. It took forever for the phoney doctoral credential to disappear however.
In Spanish, a book was published, part of it's title is '...aventureros...'(adventurers) and to my understanding, it slams credibility and documents activities. Without having seen the book, cannot comment further on sources or citations. NPOV takes extraordinary effort with some biographies. Finally, comments have been deleted from this page.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.198.6.16 (talk) 17:11, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
SEVERAL YEARS LATER:
Ms. Karp did not earn a doctorate at Stanford. She earned a masters' in Anthropology and not more. Once this false narrative has sat here for years, it is difficult to argue for its revision. As a graduate (Ph.D.) of Stanford's Anthropological Sciences department, I know what I am talking about.
2021 Feigned doctorate still appears. This person did not earn a doctorate at Stanford and I have that confirmed. This is part of the overall credibility problem the couple share. You will not find a doctorate from Stanford linked to this individual because they invented it.

Outdated article
[edit]This article looks suspiciously like it hasn’t been touched since 2012. Are they still married? What is her stance on her husband’s imprisonment? Had any new information come to light about her knowledge of or involvement in corruption? 2600:8800:A592:4100:502D:8E81:DF91:C7A0 (talk) 03:45, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
Would note that she currently has her passport confiscated in the United States while she is under investigation, and her husband is extradited on corruption charges. None of this is even mentioned. Pretty outrageous whitewashing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.252.4.22 (talk) 17:47, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
