Article Licensing
[edit]Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
My rights
[edit]In response to your quary about my Newcastle picture; I dont know. I took the picture and would like it to be used limited. Thats why I put the (c) there. I do not mind any Wikipedians using it though, as long as I am credited, _and_ that I am informed of the exact use.
Snorre -Antwelm 04:09, 2005 Jan 11 (UTC)
- Hm, I see... I was going to put it into Commons (had it been GFDL'd or something), and use it at the Finnish Wikipedia article by linking directly from there. But I dunno. In general, I suggest that you explicitly state the licenses of images in the description pages, and mark them with an appropriate tag. I'm not sure what that could be in your case, but see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for a complete list. --Jonik 18:18, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- OK, Any use here on Wiki (or Wiki`s in other languages) is clearly OK, as Iv uploaded it here.. Am I still a bit vague here, not figuring out what license I will go for? As I said, I`m happy for it to be used, I just would like to be informed... No licenses incorporate that ? -Antwelm 08:09, 2005 Jan 23 (UTC)

Finnish maps
[edit]I found that you had created a very nice Helsinki location map on fi.wikipedia and would like it on Commons. Before I shift it - is it one of a series of images? If so, could you provide me a link of a page listing these maps. Also, perhaps you'd like to upload them to list you as the uploader? --Oldak Quill 00:29, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- Hmm, indeed there are location maps for several cities, all based on templates by User:Jniemenmaa (who should get most of the credit). But, as far as I know, there isn't a centralised list of all of these, or anything like that. And yeah, maybe it would be good to have one.
- Here are some examples that come to mind: [1] [2] [3] [4]. Probably there are several others too, and not all made by me. After copying them to Commons, maybe they could be listed on a subpage of this, or something?
- Feel free to upload these to Commons yourself, I'm a bit busy with work & studying right now, so I'll keep Wikipedia stuff to minimum (or at least try to)... :-) --Jonik 18:35, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Interlang links order
[edit]Hej. Thank you for your information at Wikipedia:Language order poll noting w:fi:Wikipedia:Luettelo Wikipedian kielista. This seems very useful (though I cannot read Suomi, I can grasp the meaning). I know 日本語 is Nihongo as a Japanese, but I cannot read arabia nor hindi in their original pronunciations. So thanks again! - Marsian // talk 09:15, 2005 Apr 4 (UTC)
- You're welcome. :-) Also check out this tool, in case you ever need some help in putting the interwiki links to the particular order that we use at fi-wiki. (Although I actually have some doubts about it – perhaps "Bahasa Indonesia" should be ordered by "Indonesia" and not by "Bahasa", etc.) --Jonik 20:44, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
This image has been moved to Wikicommons (Image:Helsinki Cathedral in July 2004.jpg) so I have listed it at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. However, I would like to point out that since you first uploaded it under the GFDL license, you may not change the license to cc-by-sa. Regards, Thuresson 01:29, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, I think you are slightly wrong. Since I own the copyright to that image, I may release one version of it under GFDL, and later another under a CC licence (or whatever), if I wish to do so. Note that these are in fact different images (one is 130KB and the other 79KB).
- None of this is very important, but since you brought it up... :-) --Jonik 18:54, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Queen Elizabeth II
[edit]Please note that I have disputed the neutrality of this article. Jguk reverted my NPOV template, claiming that the NPOV dispute is just a personal campaign of one person. Whig 09:22, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
- I see. But why are you telling this to me? I don't remember having edited that article ever, nor do I have much interest in all these silly disputes. :-) --Jonik 09:34, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
La Paz Photo
[edit]Thanks for moving my La Paz Photo to wikpedia commons and restoring to the La Paz article. There's some more photos here if you ever want to use them. Kiitos!
Point taken on the revert. However, how about this?
- ASP.NET is a set of web development technologies marketed by Microsoft. Programmers can use it to build dynamic web sites, web applications and XML web services. It is part of Microsoft's .NET platform and is the successor to Microsoft's older Active Server Pages technology.
I have a problem with calling it a revision. While I'm certainly not privy to the source code, I understand little, if any, of ASP.NET is actually based upon ASP. Do you concur?
-- Chris 19:28, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- Well, choosing what to call it (in relation to 'classic' ASP) was exactly the difficult part when I wrote that sentence. So I came up with "revision" which sounded ok to me. But feel free to change it: I know very little of ASP myself and have never coded in it. (I'm more familiar with PHP and JSP.)
- Btw, another addition that I considered was linking to technologies that can be seen as alternatives to ASP.NET in producing dynamic websites. A bit like in the PHP article, except maybe linking just PHP and JSP, the most popular competitors today (afaik). --Jonik 20:51, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- Will do. On your second point, it is always good to have alternatives. I would definitely leave that to you though because I am pretty much your polar opposite: familiar with ASP (as well as ASP.NET) but not PHP or JSP. -- Chris 18:32, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. SuggestBot suggested that I add sources to the Human sexual response cycle article. Since you're the one who added the Unreferenced template, I'm hoping you can fill me in on the specifics needed. --DryaUnda 07:30, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Rowanberries in late August
[edit]I am writing regarding the picture you have placed in Commons - http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grafika:Rowanberries_in_late_August_2004_in_Helsinki.jpg . We, with our friends from the Otryt Association (connected with the Bieszczady mountains), have decided to trace and mark the first in the Ukrainian Bieszczady didactic route (historical-natural scientific). We have been preparing it with the Ukrainians from Old Sambor, in which neighborhood the route is going to be placed. The route consists of ten boards, some of which are devoted to fauna and flora of the Bieszczady. We would like to use your graphics mentioned above on one of the boards. Taking into consideration the limited space on the board (on which there are going to be other graphics and descriptions of the fauna/flora) we are not able to place the GNU or Creative Commons license text there. Would you therefore agree to place this graphic on the board giving your authorship (you full name, nickname or any other form)?
And some request - is it possible sending me this photo in higher resolution (900x900 or 1200x1200)?
I look forward to hearing from you in the nearest future.
Please, answer by e-mail (patryk HERE-SIGN-"AT" samorzad.uw.edu.pl) or my discussion page (http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyskusja_Wikipedysty:Avadoro).
Best regards

A request for assistance
[edit]Would you support the concept of moving the Earhart "myths" to a separate page or article? The reason for my suggesting this is that the main article should be an accurate and scholarly work while the speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart are interesting, they belong in a unique section. Most researchers, as you know, discount the many theories and speculation that has arisen in the years following her last flight. Go onto the Earhart discussion page and register your vote/comments...and a Happy New Year to you as well. Bzuk 02:50 3 January 2007 (UTC).
- But why do you request this from me? Sorry, but I don't recall ever editing the article (at least significantly), and have no opinions on the matter. --Jonik 19:13, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Wikimania 2010 could be coming to Stockholm!
[edit]I'm leaving you a note as you may be interested in this opportunity.
People from all six Nordic Wiki-communities (sv, no, nn, fi, da and is) are coordinating a bid for Wikimania 2010 in Stockholm. I'm sending you a message to let you know that this is occurring, and over the next few months we're looking for community support to make sure this happens! See the bid page on meta and if you like such an idea, please sign the "supporters" list at the bottom. Tack (or takk), and have a wonderful day! Mike H. Fierce! 10:47, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:StackOverflow.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:StackOverflow.png. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 13:21, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
Efecte
[edit]I removed the deletion tags on Efecte as it appears notable, but I did add a cleanup tab since the structure of the article could use some improvement, and perhaps a more clear explanation of why the company is notable. Keep up the good work! Hiberniantears (talk) 13:52, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Unusual request
[edit]Hello! I was searching for a Suomi native speaker on Wikipedia because I want to translate a sentence from English to Suomi, for a classmate... It could be qualified as a tiny surprise for her (she loves Finland :D)... The sentence is "Hearts will never be practical until they are made unbreakable." - from 'Wizard of Oz'. I would appreciate if you could give me the answer. Thank you in advance, and sorry for this unusual request. Have a good day :Andreibanc (talk) 17:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
Thank you a lot! :)

Disambiguation link notification for March 8
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Salsa dance (Cuban style), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cha Cha Cha (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Jonik. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Jonik~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
