Upload sources
[edit]Hello,
Please tell about the sources of your uploads, like the budapest population graph PNG. --grin 09:27, 6 Jan 2004 (UTC)
My uploads are my own stuff. The budapest graph was just something i made in excel from the info on the site, and then took a screenshot of it.
- Great, thanks. If you can, just put a note next time about that into the description of the pictures you upload, so we don't have to ask again and again! -- grin 15:59, 26 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Welcome Committee
[edit]Hi there. Just wanted to say thanks for joining the welcoming committee, and welcome aboard. If you have any questions about what we do, feel free to ask me. Isomorphic 20:13, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi, thanks again for your interest. The closest thing to a forum for the Welcoming Committee is the talk page you've already discovered.
About the tutorial - Instead of making it a single article (which would be way too long) I was planning to make a series of articles, with a start page entitled Wikipedia:Tutorial and then further pages called Wikipedia:Tutorial (page 2) and so on. There's going to be more content than we'd want to put on a single page. I'll go ahead and create the first page now, while I'm thinking about it. Isomorphic 21:22, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Subpages
[edit]You can create a link to a subpage from the current page by simply using a slash in the name i.e. /sub page of Ludraman's talk page, or by entering the entire name, i.e. User:Ludraman/sample subpage. Then just click the link and enter something. If you make a mistake, and want a page deleted just enter {{msg:delete}} on the page, and someone will get around to it. Dori | Talk 21:44, Mar 1, 2004 (UTC)
Adminship
[edit]Thanks for your support on the adminship nomination. Wikipedia doesn't generally accept new admins until they've been here for a few months - I'm pretty new to be nominated. Most admins have been here longer and edited more than I have before they're nominated.
If you want to be an admin, what you mostly want to do is keep contributing and stay out of trouble. If you aren't the sort of person who spends all their time on controversial topics like September 11, 2001 attacks, Evolution, and New Imperialism, you already have an advantage. Just follow the advice at Wikipedia:Wikiquette. Eventually, someone will nominate you, or you can nominate yourself, but you'll want to wait until you've been around for a few months. Monopoly
[edit]Hi. I'm going to move the Dublin monopoly names to localized versions of the Monopoly game. It makes sense to have the Atlantic City board and the London board in the article because they have been around since 1936, but if you put Dublin in you have to put in all the othe cities and then it would just get ridiculous. Speedy deletions
[edit]Hi, please don't put the speedy deletion notice on articles that should possibly go to WP:VFD instead (talking about Michael Anissimov). Dori | Talk 16:35, Mar 14, 2004 (UTC)
Latin
[edit]I only took one year of Latin, and that now has about 8 years of rust on it. I'm afraid it's nowhere near enough to make me a useful contributor to the Latin Wikipedia. Thanks for the invitation though. Isomorphic 20:50, 14 Mar 2004 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for the comment. I agree that it's questionable whether that page should have been a speedy delete or have gone to VfD. However, for me, it was strongly leaning towards the speedy delete end of the scale, so I chose to put up that notice. But by putting up that notice, someone else was required to come along and "review" my declaration -- if they believed it was inappropriate and that the page should go to VfD instead, they could change it and overrule me (and that's a good thing, as far as I'm concerned -- I don't like acting unilaterally). Once I become an admin, in a few days, I intend to continue to leave the speedy delete message on pages which I feel are borderline so that someone else can come along behind me and either confirm or override my thoughts... That's how I tend to implement the speedy deletion policy, and I think that it's quite sensible. -- Seth Ilys 21:32, 15 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Suppose (though it creates a bit more work and responsibility). As you can see, I was myself a bit hasty on one or two articles. About this Jeremy Helmers guy in the page, I've seen a few pages about him which I'm thinking of putting on vfd. I don't think they're very factual or encyclopediaworthy. Ludraman | Talk 21:44, 15 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Mischaracterization.
[edit]Ludraman: I don't appreciate your mischaracterization of my actions on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. As I am not an admin, there is no possible way that I can delete a page, yet you claim that I have done so. All I have done is place speedy deletion notices; it requires an actual admin to come along afterwards and delete the page. Please change your language so as to be factually correct. Thanks... -- Seth Ilys 02:08, 16 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- What I was saying was that as you put speedy deletion notices on newpages, these pages are meant to be deleted very soon, usually for vandalism where there is no question about the deletion. As an administrator, you would have the power to delete these pages immediately, which mightn't be the best course of action for some of them. Ludraman | Talk 18:39, 16 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- P.S. I never said you had deleted any pages before, just that you had put notices on some.
- You said: but Seth Ilys might be a tad too quick in speedy-deleting some new pages. That is quite clearly impossible, as I have never deleted a page. As I noted above, as an admin I will certainly not immediately delete every article that I would post {{msg:delete}} on presently. Please change, retract, or amend your deceptive statement. -- Seth Ilys 04:55, 17 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- I meant that you might (when you became an admin) speedy-delete some pages too quickly, as you had put the notice on quickly before. I would assume that on the pages you put a notice on, you would use your powers to delete them quickly as an admin. If that is not the case, then you should list the pages on vfd instead.
- (burying my head in my hands and laughing at myself) I'm so sorry! All this drama over my misunderstanding of a verb tense! I thought that your "might" referred to a judgment on my past actions, not on my future ones. Please except my sincere apologies... -- Seth Ilys 13:58, 17 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Thank You!
[edit]I want to thank you DEEPLY for your support in the vote to promote me to a sysop. I promise to do my best to be as helpful, sensible, and neutral as possible. Your friend, Ryan.
Greeting
[edit]Hi. Feel free to use my boilerplate, but if you want to modify it, make a copy and put it on a user subpage like User:Ludraman/Greeting or something like that. Then you can modify it howeve you like. I usually change my message a bit each time I use it - the boilerplate is the stuff I always say so that I dont't have to retype it each time. I appreciate your help in greeting people. Isomorphic 18:38, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Great, go for it. You don't really have to ask permission for something like that, although I appreciate the compliment. The message is GFDL, after all ;-) Isomorphic 18:46, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Bricfeasta Éireannach
[edit]Ludraman, tá an leathanach Irish breakfast curtha ar Wikipedia:Votes for deletion. Cur do vóta ann le do thoil. Tá duine éigin ag iarraigh Irish breakfast a scrios agus ag rá go bhfuil English breakfast amháin ceadaithe. cad a dtuigeann tú faoi seo. Sasanach míbhéasach is doigh liom.
Zoney 22:45, 21 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks Ludraman, but the version up currently is very against the idea that Irish breakfast is separate or deserves its own article. See the link at the top of the page for the earlier version. (I don't want to get a revert war started) Zoney 23:08, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Gaeilge
[edit]Go raibh maith agat a Ludraman as do mholadh! Fuair mé B1 san Ardteist sa Ghaeilge. Bhí mé i mo freastal ar 'Ghaelscoil' ar feadh cúpla bliain agus mé sa bhunscoil. Táim i mo freastal ag an Ollscoil le linn cuig bliana anois, mar sin tá laghdú tágtha ar caighdéan mo Ghaeilge. Faoi lathair táim i mo freastal ar ranganna Gaeilge, chun caint as Gaeilge ar a laghad.
- Bhí tú i nGaelscoil? Bhí mise i nGaelscoil freisin! (tá mé i méanscoil anois áfach). Ludraman | Talk 08:23, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Welcome to the AMA
[edit]Just wanted to welcome you to the AMA, as an association we are not very old and as I was the founder I have been acting as "de facto interim coordinator". You may have noticed that there is an election going on for an elected coordinator at wikipedia:AMA Coordinator Election — feel free to participate. There was no decision about voting by new members who have joined since the election process stated a few weeks ago. I guess as the only new member that has joined so far since the election started that is an issue you might want to ponder. You might also want to introduce yourself to the rest of us with a statement on the Wikipedia:AMA Member Statements page. Note that it is organized alphabetically. — Alex756 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Alex756 talk] 23:11, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)
VFD and stuff
[edit]Hey. Just wanted you to know- some of your articles have lately been accused of being unencyclopedic. In particular, First 100000 digits of pi is now on Wikipedia:Votes for Deletion. I've also been told that this content already exists on Wikisource. Remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a mere collection of facts, sources, et al. If it's not an encyclopedia article, it belongs elsewhere. Fennec 20:24, 25 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Yes, I've realised that - people pointed it out on the talk page. I have no objection to its deletion now i know its on Wikisource. Sorry I didn't check first! Ludraman | Talk 20:33, 25 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Heh heh, the tagline says it all 'well, the name says it all.....first 100000 digits of pi!' :o) Sorry Ludraman! Zoney
- I only created it because I didn't know it was on Wikisource. I have no objection to its deletion now, as it has been rendered redundant
- Heh heh, the tagline says it all 'well, the name says it all.....first 100000 digits of pi!' :o) Sorry Ludraman! Zoney
- Sorry for the confusion, it seems that this was the only one really accused of being unencyclopedic. Fennec 17:07, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Sam Spade
[edit]I've removed that nomination. It's my understanding that he does not wish to be nominated, and that it causes a great deal of unwanted controversy when he is. See Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship#requests for my Adminship. --Michael Snow 01:11, 27 Mar 2004 (UTC)
nomination
[edit]First of all thank you for your nomination. Secondly I'd reccomend you look here as to why I don't like to be nominated, but thank you again. Sam Spade 03:34, 27 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- p.s. sorry for all the extra edits, I was trying to figure out how to do the sig thing. Cheers, Sam Spade 03:35, 27 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Irish Articles
[edit]Hi Ludraman, would welcome your comments on Cork (city) and Fota Island, both of which are the only things I've worked on recently. (Unfortunately, I'm too busy to do anything but put in an hour here and there after my initial weeks of discovery and non-stop editing)
