John, welcome to Wikipedia! If you have questions, we try to address many of them here and here. The best advice, in general, is just to start contributing--WP has its petty fights and squabbles like all avenues of human existence, and as a new contributor it's tempting to get involved (it was for me), but ultimately what gets valued here is people who create solid new articles, and strengthen the ones we have. Hitting the Random Page link is a good way to get a sense of what this project does best, and needs to do better. If you have questions, you can always ask me on my talk page -- btw, I should note that you and I share a favorite author and a creed, and while it's not my all-time favorite book, FOTR is on my top ten and my favorite of the LOTR trilogy. Once again, welcome! Jwrosenzweig 14:55, 21 Oct 2003 (UTC)
