Kurt Cobain was one of the Music good articles, but it has been removed from the list. There are suggestions below for improving the article to meet the good article criteria. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.

The last sentence in the section “death” > aftermath:
Another photo shows Cobain's foot resting next to a bag of shotgun shells, one of which was used in his death.[99]
Please remove the words, “one of which was used in his death.”
is of indeterminable origin. It is used in a Facebook group called "Kurt Cobain Forever Alive In Our Hearts," and there's a similar pic likely from the same photo shoot on pinterest, where someone with long black hair is cropped out. Possibly Dave. Either way, likely copyrighted, not usable.
I usually just make minor grammatical edits so I don't know how to add and cite pictures correctly but can someone please change this? This picture is awful and you can't even tell it's him and somehow it's been up for months at this point. Kurt Cobain is one of the most photographed and recognizable people in the world so it shouldn't be hard to find one more suitable. The one before this, a picture of him with headphones on if I remember correctly, was perfectly fine in my opinion. Not sure what the issue with it was. For what it's worth, I rather like the current pic in the infobox. It's quite clearly Kurt. Frankly, some fashion show-esque pic like those suggested above, as opposed to a blurry photo of him in concert, would probably be a disservice to his memory and a disservice to this article. Again, review WP:NFCC at your pleasure, it is the project policy on the usage of non-free content, and the focus on using freely-licensed material when possible. Zaathras (talk) 12:27, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The current infobox image has been in place for years. Whatever kurt-with-headphones photo you're referring to was probably only in place briefly before being reverted and deleted on non-free content grounds. Y'know, that policy you claim to already know. Zaathras (talk) 18:12, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's a lot of history to dive though, but it appears that the current image was used without issue from the mid 2000s through 2019, barring some brief attempts by licensing-ignorant editors to upload unusable alternatives. Around May 2019, newer licensing-ignorant editors uploaded several variations of what I presume is this image, and managed to fly under the radar for maybe a year or so. When they were finally driven away by common sense and policy-based reasons to delete their uploads, the article returned to the relative stability that we have now. I'm sorry if a more detailed explanation confused you, I'm also well-aware of how Commons works, seeing how I have initiated several (one, two, three, four) myself, regarding this page. So here's where we're at. If you add a non-free image, it will be reverted. Simple. Have a better day. Zaathras (talk) 02:25, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have to be kidding me. That is not a real photo of Kurt Cobain, it doesn’t take anyone genius to have the logical conclusion of that. It LITERALLY says that it was taken in April of 2014. I have found one photo of Cobain (on the left), unfortunately even worse, clearable for Wikipedia Wcamp9 (talk) 01:10, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
