"What the Badb embodies" section
[edit]This section is a probable copyvio. A quick search on Google books reveals it comes from The Fairy-faith in Celtic Countries by Walter Yeeling Evans-Wentz, which was published in 1911, but is only available in snippet view on Google Books, so is probably still in copyright. I will attempt to rewrite it to avoid copyright violation. --Nicknack009 12:23, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Old Irish in Prophecy
[edit]With Kellnhauser/Ó Tuathail's Modern Irish/English version removed, I've replaced it with the original Irish from the CMT ms. I can't recall the first version of the English translation I have here, but I think it's fairly straightforward. If any of you with more OI can improve it, go for it. Turns out, the translation is not straightforward at all. I found the original source I used for the English here, and it was from someone else's uncredited translation that I hadn't thoroughly vetted. If you look at various discussions on OldIrish-L, as well as a number of books and websites that include this piece, there is no agreed upon translation for some parts of this. This is due to some of the OI being archaic, or not being found elsewhere (probably indicating scribal errors), which has necessitated a certain amount of speculation and poetic license on the part of everyone who has attempted to translate this. I am now going to post what I think is the most simple and straightforward version, even though, without adding additional verbiage or line breaks, the meaning is not as clear as it could be. In order to keep it from being too weird I've only added some commas where needed. To the ends of making it more understandable and poetic, I have a more elaborate translation, complete with exhaustive footnotes, if someone wants to check it: Loughlin, Annie; NicDhàna, Kathryn Price; and Ní Chonchobhair, Treasa (2012) "Prayer in Gaelic Polytheism", pp.14-17. As I am a co-author of the article, and the one who did the translation, I will not cite myself in the article, but am including the link here if anyone else thinks it is suitable as a translation and citation. - Kathryn NicDhàna ♫♦♫ 23:12, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
