- The Wikimedia Australia committee and members are very sorry to hear of the passing of one of our own, Wikipedian Craig Franklin -- User:Lankiveil. Craig was a long-time contributor to Wikipedia projects from 2004. Craig's first edit was to create the page Lagumot Harris for the former President of Nauru. Craig mainly contributed to English Wikipedia though he also contributed widely to other projects as well. Craig first joined the Wikimedia Australia committee in 2010 as Treasurer, becoming President in 2013. He was always willing to provide his experience to the committee. Craig was instrumental in establishing a relationship between Wikimedia Australia and the State Library of Queensland, where he would later take on a Wikipedian-in-Residence role. He will be dearly missed. Our thoughts are with his family. Pru.mitchell (talk) 21:10, 16 April 2018 (UTC) President, Wikimedia Australia

- On Friday, the Ombuds Commission expressed their sympathy to the Franklin family. From their note:
- “We were deeply shocked and saddened to learn the news of Craig's passing.
- “Craig joined the group of privacy ombudspeople for the Wikimedia projects in February 2017. With his firm commitment to protect the users of our sites, his readiness to dive into the matters pending before us, and his great good humor, he was enthusiastically received by his colleagues. Craig would regularly take a lead role on managing our caseload, which he handled with diligence, good judgment and distinguished ability. Discussions with him were always exhilarating and rewarding. He welcomed differing views, and had the rare quality of being not only able to convince others, but also to let them convince him. He strived for compromise even in the face of profound differences. Unsurprisingly to anyone who has had a chance to work with him, Craig was reappointed to the Commission this year.
- “We owe him our deepest gratitude for his work, which was and continues to be an inspiration to all of us. He will be greatly missed.”
