Should genres be listed here?— Slike | Talk |
- Probably not, or at least not all of them. Mrwojo 14:39, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Rename Chronology of console role-playing games to Timeline of console role-playing games?— Slike | Talk |
- I agree, might want to post something on that article's talk first. Mrwojo 14:39, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Rename Timeline of video games to Timeline of computer and video games?— Slike | Talk |
- Don't for now. I'm going to carry through on the long-held plans to split the timeline into the years articles. The timeline will redirect to the appropriate history article. Mrwojo 14:39, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Merge Video game player with Gamer?— Slike | Talk |

[edit]- I've left comments in the article where innapropriate (I think) edits may occur because the editor has not had a chance to look through a talk page for an explanation (none will exist).
- The Pc games and console games articles are about the hardware that the games run on.
- The short descriptive sentances are meant to clear things up. This is a list, but that doesn't mean that all reader aids need be removed.
- There's no need to be afraid of lots of ***** on the edit screen - the reader only sees one

Sentence outlines or Navboxes
[edit]What format should we use for the article – navboxes or sentence outlines ? — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 09:42, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
- Sentence outlines. This has the potential for annotating the links, which is impossible for a navbox. See, for example, Outline of canoeing and kayaking. The benefit of an outline is that the reader can learn the basic meaning of a topic without clicking the link. This is especially important since video games includes a lot of specialized language and jargon. Navboxes also do not show sub-sections for the table of contents. Article space is not a real issue, as we are concerned with a brief but broad overview of the whole topic. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 09:42, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
What type of thing is a video game?
[edit]First off, this is the strangest article I've come across on the 'pedia (and I've been around). It's almost impossible to navigate or digest. It also seems to be a poor copy of this article.
But aside from that, what is the "What type of thing is a video game?" section supposed to be for? What type of information is it supposed to convey? Not only is it horribly named, but it just links to topics that don't even answer the question or have anything to do directly with video games. I realize it might be in a state of flux, so what is the plan with this section? Is it going to develop into something logical or can we just nix it? — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 17:01, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- It's a part of WP:OUTLINES (Category:Outlines) and it's structured like the rest of them. Some of this was being rewritten by a new editor but then it kind of trailed off and left it in a weird state. I would get rid of "What type of thing is a video game?" section. It's vague, OR, and not really outline material. The rest is just a list of links and there shouldn't be any significant issues except missing entries and descriptions. P.S. your link is the same as this article. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 22:22, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, I feel silly. I must have been in a rush. I'll delete the eponymous section. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 02:38, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Quick explanation of Wikipedia outlines
[edit]"Outline" is short for "hierarchical outline". There are two types of outlines: sentence outlines (like those you made in school to plan a paper), and topic outlines (like the topical synopses that professors hand out at the beginning of a college course). Outlines on Wikipedia are primarily topic outlines that serve 2 main purposes: they provide taxonomical classification of subjects showing what topics belong to a subject and how they are related to each other (via their placement in the tree structure), and as subject-based tables of contents linked to topics in the encyclopedia. The hierarchy is maintained through the use of heading levels and indented bullets. See Wikipedia:Outlines for a more in-depth explanation. The Transhumanist 00:12, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
Video game genres
[edit]Could we replace the current list of video game genres with Template:Video game genre, and further link to List of video game genres? It seems like genres are sufficiently covered and shouldn't be manually listed multiple times. ~Mable (chat) 17:02, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
