Plural

[edit]

What's the plural of solidus? Solidii (like the coin)?

Solidi. Only one i is needed to pluralize a noun ending in -us. Radii has -ii because the stem is radi- and the suffix -us becomes -i, thus radii. Without an i-final stem, the plural only has a single i. Similarly the plural of virus (when using the pseudo-latin plural) is viri, not virii.

The term solidus seems to be the obscure technical name for what most people call a "slash". In accordance with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names), I am moving this article to slash. Nohat 18:44, 2004 Jul 9 (UTC)

How is solidus pronounced? Which syllable is emphasized?
