Amateur archaeologist

[edit]

Is this "title" correct? As far as I can see he got a proper PhD in 1869 and started excavations after that. 91.61.234.254 (talk) 07:26, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Along with Arthur Evans?"

[edit]

This citation is from the legacy section - but Evans was a generation younger! 91.61.234.254 (talk) 11:54, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Revision

[edit]

I have now invested some time in clearing this article of polemical and subjective statements and adding references. Unfortunately everything was reset and I have little desire to do the work again. What a shame! If someone is working on a revision again, the article in German would be a good source... 80.134.96.165 (talk) 13:23, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dissertation

[edit]

"David Traill wrote that the examiners gave him his PhD on the basis of his topographical analyses of Ithaca, which were in part simply translations of another author's work or drawn from poetic descriptions by the same author."

This is something that traill wrote but it is not true. Several people worked with the documents in the archive of the University of Rostock and published about this PhD procedure:

Wilfried Bölke: Promotion an der Rostocker Universität. In: Bölke 1996, S. 160–168 Richter 1980a: W. Richter, „Ithaque, le Péloponnèse et Troie“ und das Promotionsverfahren Heinrich Schliemanns. learned languages...

[edit]

the languages section should be improved as it misses some languages which occur in his diaries: https://www.ascsa.edu.gr/uploads/media/LAASA_Schliemann_3%20march%202015.pdf 91.61.225.154 (talk) 09:26, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
